For the majority of PhD candidates, pursuing a doctorate is a challenging journey. It is a trip to explore their latent potential and to find the self they want, not just a study path to acquire the best degree that institutions can provide. It frequently crosses paths with adulthood and numerous career pathways. Hence, to guarantee that the journey is as complete as possible, it needs to be properly planned and involves our deliberate engagement. The sharing of Dr. Nghia Tran about his journey to complete a PhD in Australia, the challenges he encountered, and how he overcame them will motivate and inspire those who are starting on this journey.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGLISH FOR OCCUPATIONAL PURPOSES 2023 "CALL FOR PAPERS"

Dear respected authors and colleagues,

Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), VietTESOL Association, National Foreign Language Program (NFLP), and Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) are honored to welcome all the valued presenters to submit your abstracts to our EOP INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2023.  The Conference is funded by the Regional English Language Office (RELO), the US Embassy in Vietnam, and will be held face-to-face at Hanoi University of Industry on April 15-16, 2023.

With the main theme “EOP Education: Meeting the needs of the demanding labor market”, the conference aims at discussing the current situation of English for Ocupational Purposes (EOP) education in Vietnam, identifying outstanding trends in EOP training nationwide and worldwide, and sharing lessons and practical models from different institutions in Vietnam. This two-day conference will be a trusted forum for teachers, practitioners, and researchers in the field to exchange ideas and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of EOP education, especially in response to the needs of the demanding labor market.

The EOP International Conference 2023 sub-themes:

Proposals are invited for presentations (20 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A) and workshops (60 minutes) dealing with the design and successful implementation of EOP programs. Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:

  • EOP/ ESP curriculum design and evaluation,
  • EOP/ ESP material development and evaluation
  • EOP/ ESP teaching methods (pedagogy)
  • EOP/ ESP testing and assessment
  • Technology in EOP/ ESP language teaching and learning 
  • Tasks in EOP/ ESP language teaching and learning (TBLT in EOP/ ESP programs)
  • EOP/ ESP teacher education and continuous professional development
  • EMI/ CLIL
  • Blended/virtual EOP/ ESP language teaching and learning
  • Developments/trends in EOP/ESP education
  • Opportunities and challenges of EOP/ESP Education

The submission should include the title of the presentation (15 words maximum), an abstract for the presentation (250 words maximum), 4-5 key words.

Every author is required to provide personal information including a title, full name, affiliation, contact information, a portrait image, and biodata outlining interests and previous experience (80 words maximum).

Conference proceedings:

After the conference, all presenters will be invited to submit full papers to be reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings with an ISBN (with a publication fee of VND 2,000,000).
