[British Council] - Fully Funded Masters Scholarships for Vietnamese Teachers
  • Are you an English language teacher in Viet Nam looking to upgrade your skills and gain international exposure?
  • Would you like the opportunity to gain a UK Masters’ degree while studying online from the comfort of your own home or school?
  • Are you keen to support the development and enhancement of English language teaching in Viet Nam?

If you answered yes to the three questions above, we are delighted to offer an opportunity for English language teachers in Viet Nam to apply for fully-funded scholarships to study for a masters level qualification with the UK’s Ulster University as part of our UK/Viet Nam Season 2023.

What is on offer?

We are committed to providing opportunities for English language teachers to access world-leading continuing professional development opportunities and reach their fullest potential. To support this, as part of our UK/Viet Nam Season 2023 in collaboration with Ulster University, we are offering nine fully-funded scholarships for English language teachers from Viet Nam.

Who can apply?

If you are an English language teacher working in or with the government schools sector, and have not previously received a scholarship to study at a UK university, then you should be eligible to apply for this scholarship.

How will we study?

If selected, you will study online and part-time for two years from October 2023-Summer 2025.

In addition, as part of the programme, a two-week fully-funded residential visit to Ulster will be organised in Summer 2024 for you to put your learning into practice with a teaching placement in a UK school.

What will the scholarships cover?

  • IELTS exam costs
  • Tuition fees
  • Stipend for living expenses while in the UK
  • Flights and connecting travel to the UK
  • Visa costs and insurance

What are the benefits of Ulster University’s MA Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages Programme?

Ulster University has been running an MA TESOL Programme since 1983, the oldest such course in Ireland making it a world recognised qualification. Combined with comprehensive theoretical input, the MA places significant emphasis on the actual practice of teaching. Scholars will engage in a range of modules focusing on the practice of teaching, theories behind language learning, and knowledge of linguistics. In addition, scholars will gain the valuable experience of working in a local school during their two-week visit to Northern Ireland.

What is expected of successful scholars during and after the online MA programme?

You will be expected to form a network with your colleagues from across Viet Nam participating in this scholarship programme. You should benefit from ongoing engagement with the British Council in Viet Nam, as well as each other, to support the development and enhancement of English language teaching and learning in Viet Nam.
